Millions Watched Him Care for His Grandmother. This Is What It Taught Him with Chris Punsalan, Caregiver, Creator, & Creative Director at tendercare

So many people step into caregiving without ever using that word. They are just helping mom. Showing up for grandma. Figuring it out one day at a time. And yet, inside those ordinary moments are some of the most profound questions of our lives, about identity, dignity, sacrifice, grief, purpose, and what it means to really be there for someone we love.

Today my guest is Chris Punsalan, content creator, former full-time caregiver for his grandmother, and now Creative Director at TenderCare, a company building resources and support for families navigating elder care. Chris first built an online community through music and production content on YouTube, but it was his honest sharing during the final years of caring for his grandmother that reached millions. Through his storytelling, people found more than content. They found comfort. They found language for what they were living. They found a reminder that they were not the only ones carrying something heavy.

In this conversation, Chris and I talk about what it means to become a caregiver before you even know that’s what you are, how sharing our stories can become both an outlet and a lifeline, and why authenticity matters so deeply in a world that can feel noisy and hard to trust. We also talk about preserving dignity, supporting caregivers in practical ways, the quiet power of friendship, and how Chris is now honoring his grandmother’s legacy through advocacy, creativity, and work that helps other families feel seen. This is a conversation about care, yes, but also about purpose, legacy, and the very human need to know we do not have to carry hard things alone. Thank you, Chris, honored to have you as a guest and fellow advocate in this space!
